Hannah was a dancer with mapdance during 2014-15, touring nationally and internationally (including venues across England, Norway and Slovakia).
Under the artistic direction of Yael Flexer and Detta Howe, mapdance repertory was created by the work of the following choreographers:
Jonathan Burrows - Everything All At Once Everywhere
Rick Nodine - Two Halves And A Cross Fade
Abi Mortimer (Lîla Dance) - Schemes, Dreams and Machines
Ofra Idel (Machol Shalem Dance) - The One
Kerry Nicholls - (re-staging of) Nailed
The company worked collaboratively with each choreographer to form repertoire that was physically and somatically challenging, from very technically driven movement pieces to outrageous physical theatre. The works varied greatly, which provided fantastic experience for a performer to explore the transfer and shift of focus or energy that was required for each choreography.
Alongside creating, performing and training in mapdance, there were a number of outreach projects in the form of rep workshops with college students, led by company members. Hannah was asked to lead workshops for students in Salisbury (UK), Weymouth (UK) and Sandnes (Norway). Her workshop leading and choreographic input, alongside fellow company members, resulted in a curtain raiser performed by the student participants before the mapdance show in both Salisbury and Weymouth.
Hannah embarked on individual research whilst with mapdance. She explored the notion of finding individuality in performance, whilst recognising ones position in a group whole and effectively adhering to choreographic intent. The resulting written dissertation focused on the experiential learning of a dancer, in the context of a performing dance company.
From these experiences, Hannah graduated from University of Chichester with an MA in Dance Performance.
